Background
The Ahimsa Foundation was founded by Elsie Mitchell, daughter of Edward C. Johnson II (founder of Fidelity Investments), and sister to current Fidelity owner Edward C. (Ned) Johnson III, whose net worth is calculated around $5.1 billion. Mitchell and her husband John also founded the Cambridge Buddhist Association. In August 1997, the Ahimsa Foundation and the Massachusetts Audubon Society were fined $1,500 for violating state laws against attempting to funnel conservation funds to animal rights activists.
