As the Department of Agriculture's new organic food regulations take effect, the public still runs the risk of buying into the myth that organic means "better" ["The New Organics," Food & Dining, Oct. 16 ].
Some people mistakenly believe that organic food is especially safe or nutritious, or that it's entirely pesticide-free. It's not necessarily any of those things, regardless of if the organic food comes from a local farmer or a sizable company. Its primary distinguishing feature is still the manure that it's grown in.
